What are the pick up and drop off times?
Pick-up and drop-off can be arranged between 7am and 4pm at a suitable location, which will be confirmed between both parties. We aim to be flexible and accommodate your schedule, but due to the number of vans and deliveries, it can sometimes be more complex to coordinate.
We have a dedicated team to help with multiple deliveries on the same day to make things run smoothly.
For National and Caravan Parks in NSW, check-in times are typically 2pm, and check-out is 10am. If we’re collecting a van from you, we’ll confirm your check-out time and be there to coordinate the collection.
If you need to leave earlier, simply do a quick clean-up, pack your things, lock the van, hide the key, and let us know! We’d also appreciate it if you could take a few photos for us.
What is the minimum booking period?
- Non-Peak Periods: A minimum booking of 3 days (2 nights) is required. This allows for a full weekend adventure—set up on Friday and return on Sunday.
- Peak Periods: During busier times, such as holidays, the minimum booking period extends to 5 days (4 nights) to accommodate demand and ensure you enjoy a proper getaway.
Longer bookings are always welcome! Many of our vans are designed for extended travel and can take you on incredible journeys across Australia. For bookings of 3 weeks or more, we’ll perform a comprehensive service and check on your caravan before departure, ensuring it’s ready for your epic adventure.

Are your Caravans pet-friendly?
At Dirtgear Caravan Hire, we’re pet lovers too and understand that adventures are better with your furry friends. We’re happy to allow pets in our caravans, with a small pet cleaning fee of $30 to cover the extra care needed to keep our vans spotless for all our customers.
To keep things comfortable for everyone, please ensure your pets do not sleep on the beds. Each van is equipped with cleaning supplies to help you return it in great condition. If you’ve opted for our “Clean the Van for Me” service, no worries—we’ll handle it all for you!

How long does the handover take?
The handover typically takes 30–60 minutes, during which we’ll give you a comprehensive demonstration of how the caravan operates.
We also provide detailed manuals for your van and are always just a call away if you need assistance during your trip. Our goal is to ensure you feel confident and ready to enjoy your adventure!
Do I need an Electric Brake Controller?
Yes, an electric brake controller is required to tow our caravans.
If your vehicle doesn’t already have one installed, you can hire an electric brake controller from us for $50 per hire. We offer two convenient options:
- Manual Unit: This plugs directly into the van and then into your vehicle’s 12V cigarette lighter/power adapter.
- Bluetooth Unit: This modern option connects to your phone via a simple app, allowing you to control the van’s brakes effortlessly.
We’ll guide you through setup and usage to ensure you’re ready to tow with confidence!
What sort of tow-vehicle do I need?
The smallest caravan in our fleet requires a vehicle with a towing capacity of 3,000 kg, while the largest caravan requires a 3,500 kg towing capacity. It’s important to check your vehicle’s specifications to ensure it can safely tow the van you’re hiring.
If you’re unsure about your vehicle’s towing ability, provide us with its details, and we’ll confirm for you. Alternatively, you can simplify things by hiring our new Ford Ranger, which is fully equipped for towing all our caravans.
